DTD to install test well at DOE’s Hanford site
DTD has been selected by CH2MHill Plateau Remediation Company to install a test 800’ blind horizontal well at the Hanford DOE Site in Washington. The well is to be installed, passing through the high energy deposits of the Hanford and Ringgold Formations. Large diameter cobble, gravel and sand promise to make this a challenging installation
DTD Updates Air Sparge Spreadsheet
DTD’s free downloadable spreadsheet that selects slotting patterns to effectively distribute air flow evenly across air sparge horizontal wells has been update. The updated version better predicts frictional headloss across the screened interval, which allows more accurate prediction of the air discharge from the distal end of the well screen. Here is the link for the

DTD has completed the installation of a 1,450 ft horizontal well at a southern EPA Superfund Site.
The well design (very low screen open area and multiple casings) required the use of our American Augers 210,000 lbs-rated drill rig and 100% biodegradable drilling fluid. After assembly of the complicated pull-back package (multiple screens and casings) the well was drilled, installed and developed over two weeks
in July.

The screened interval was set 100 feet below ground and designed to allow oxygen injection into any of three distinct 170–ft long intervals. One of the three screened intervals was designed by Air Diffusion Systems (www.airdiffusion.com), marking DTD’s first installation of this product.

EPA’s Technology Innovation Program’s July 2009 press release features a DTD installed air sparge well in evaluation of different remedial technologies.
The final results show the strength of appropriate use of horizontal air sparge wells for groundwater remediation. Not only did the horizontal wells reduce contaminate levels 91-96%, but they were almost half the cost of the only other viable treatment method.

DTD publishes new Glossary of
HDD Terminology
Since many practitioners are new to horizontal directional drilling in environmental applications, they are often unfamiliar with the specialized terminology common to the industry. In some cases, terms that are familiar in vertical drilling have a different meaning in HDD. DTD’s new Glossary of HDD Terminology is an attempt to help HDD practitioners, their clients, and contractors communicate more effectively.

DTD has a new president
Dan Ombalski has been promoted to President of DTD, taking over the day-to-day operations of the company. Jim Doesburg, company founder and past president, will be focusing on project development, research and development, and new technology applications to horizontal drilling.
DTD has New completed Projects
DTD recently completed two 450+ foot horizontal directional wells for pilot testing of remediation technologies beneath an operating auto parts manufacturing facility near Detroit, Michigan. The well screens, situated from 12 to 25 feet beneath the factory floor, traversed areas of storage, robotic assembly stations, and assembly lines, which provided interesting challenges for location and navigation. The projects were finished in record time, with one of the wells installed in less than two days.
DTD has Won new Contracts in Florida
DTD has won the contract to install a 1400 foot remediation well at the Escambia Wood Treatment plant near Pensacola, Florida. The well, to be drilled to a depth of 100 feet beneath active railroad operations, will use a carrier casing to install three separate sub-casings, each with a discrete screened section
DTD has posted a new video
The following video shows a downhole video of an air sparge well at system startup. Note that air bursts initially travel past the video camera upon system startup. With increased air pressure, the well purged of water and air distribution occurs along the entire perforated section. Follow the link to see the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6YZrHqvWvCA
DTD finishes new Installation in mid-atlantic landfill
DTD has just finished installing two of four leachate drains in a mid-atlantic landfill. The drains (677 and 684 feet long) were installed through the landfill waste and will serve to lower leachate levels.
DTD office move
DTD has moved our Corporate Headquarters to the Bremerton National Airport in Port Orchard, Washington. Our new location provides significantly expanded shop space, plenty of room for indoor and outdoor equipment storage, and additional office space for our growing team. From our Port Orchard location we can quickly mobilize personnel and equipment directly to all Western Washington locations. With this move, DTD also enjoys lower overhead costs while providing enhanced working conditions - a win-win situation!
